Project Highlights

Another salt and sand storage building, this time for the the City of Pickering.

Even though the structural elements of the wall are also exposed, only the ceiling was protected with bird netting. The owners decided to leave walls exposed for the time being. However, Pigeon Busters planned and installed the netting so that it can be extended downwards, vertically, along the walls if required in the future. This building had LED light fixtures mounted directly on the structural I-beams overhead (instead of pendant fixtures) and the owner specifically requested the netting to be run behind the lights, tight along the underside of the beams. This method adds significant labor time, because the netting has to be cut and joined behind each light fixture and this can be very meticulous and time consuming. In many cases vertical I-beams are used for construction, which also require specific attention at the points, where the netting wraps around the beams; these can be critical, because a small opening can provide access to sparrows inside the netting, if not installed properly.

At this building we installed approximately 20,000 square feet of netting and whether the owners made the right choice about only protecting the ceiling and leaving the walls exposed, only time will tell.
