Project Highlights

Sometimes simple jobs can pose great challenges. What we have here is a simple air handling unit on a commercial apartment building roof top, inside a semi-enclosed area.

The unit emits an incredible amount of heat which keeps this area warm and cozy for pigeons. The birds roosted on the horizontal pipes as well as nested under the unit.

The solution is simple: pull bird netting across the front of the opening. Sounds simple, but unfortunately the roof membrane turns up the bottom of the walls and extends 12 inches from the floor and this area cannot be penetrated using conventional wedge anchors due to potential leaking issues.

To solve problem we custom fabricated strong L-brackets and mounted them on the concrete wall. They extend down to floor and support mounting the perimeter cable for the Bird Netting. This allowed us to completely bypass the roof membrane part and avoid any possibility of damaging the building structure unnecessarily.

Access through the Bird Netting was provided with a zipper than can be quickly opened for maintenance workers.
