Project Highlights

Bell Canada is one of our oldest clients, we’ve worked on many of their buildings since we started back in 2001.

This building is their downtown centre located at Bay Street and Adelaide Street West. A beautiful, old building of robust quality with many interesting features. The South facade was decorated with stainless steel railings and long, vertical, recessed windows, spanning 15-17 feet high and are built in five larger sections. Each of these sections have four decorative railings and this pattern repeats throughout the building.

The block is famous for pigeon problems; many other buildings have taken measures to control the issue with varying degrees of success.

The problem has been getting much worse in recent years on the building facade and Bell Canada decided to tackle the issue head on and ordered the protection of the entire South facade.

The pigeons roosted on the decorative railings and window frame ledges and access to these areas were very limited. Pigeon Busters had to bring in a full scale swing stage setup.

The narrow roof terrace posed a big challenge as to whether a stage could be set up at all, but Pigeon Busters’ engineers resolved that problem and worked out a solution to mount short swing stage beams to the existing roof anchors.

The pedestrian traffic was protected with overhead scaffolding and we were ready to go.

All the affected areas on the facade were now within reach and protected using Bird Spikes.

We also extended the protection to the main entrance, where other moulding ledges and light fixtures received similar treatment as well.
